Paddlefish (Polyodon spathula) - belongs to the paddlefish family, the only representative of sturgeon-like, the basis of whose food is zooplankton organisms, which it filters with gill rakers, also consumes phytoplankton and decrit. It was brought from the Mississippi basin in the early 70s of the last century to the fisheries of the former USSR (in 1974), and from where, after receiving its offspring, it was distributed to other regions, including Ukraine.
It is also interesting that the paddlefish is a fast-growing fish, in its natural habitat it reaches a weight of 80 kg and a body length of more than 2 m. There is no fulcrum (bug) on ​​the body, typical for sturgeon species of fish.
