The most common and traditional way to serve caviar is in sandwiches. A classic caviar sandwich: a slice of white bread is spread with butter, and a thin layer of caviar is placed on top. However, even such a simple dish as caviar sandwiches can be diversified.
Firstly, instead of a fresh soft loaf, you can take crispy toasts or fried slices of bread (croutons).
Secondly, instead of butter, you can use thick cream as a “substrate” for caviar - it is not as fatty as butter, so you can take more of it. By the way, cream can be colored with fresh green or carrot juice. And if you grind, for example, tuna with cream, you will get the most delicate fish pate as a substrate for caviar. Another option: grind cream with cottage cheese, salt and herbs. Cottage cheese like “Almette” will also do.
Thirdly, you can get creative with the shape of the bread slices, cutting the loaf into hearts, circles, triangles, etc.
And fourthly, it is worth conjuring up the decoration of the sandwiches with caviar. Most often, sandwiches with red and black caviar are decorated with lemon (this is also a very tasty combination), olives, and herbs. The taste of caviar goes well with the taste of fresh and lightly salted cucumbers, while cucumber slices will liven up the sandwich.
You can complement the sandwich with caviar with a strip of omelet or even a whole fried egg - eggs with caviar, as you know, make a very harmonious tandem. Sandwiches with caviar can be made high - two- or three-layer. In this case, the sides should be coated with butter and generously sprinkled with herbs - it turns out bright and beautiful. For example, red fish or herring butter can be used as a layer between the slices of bread
Caviar on crackers. You can serve caviar in the form of small sandwiches, but do without bread, replacing it with, for example, unsweetened crackers. As a base for caviar, you can use this cream: take equal amounts of softened butter and cottage cheese such as Almette, add curry to taste, mix thoroughly. Grease the crackers with cream, put a teaspoon of red or black caviar on top - both beautiful and delicious! True, you need to leave such mini-sandwiches for at least an hour to soak, and then serve.
Sandwiches are, of course, far from the only way to beautifully serve caviar at a festive table. There are various appetizers with caviar - delicious and original.
