Employees of Forward Thinking developed an innovative project "Intelligent floating farm"

The engineering and architectural firm Forward Thinking Architecture from Barcelona (Spain) has taken the problem of overpopulation of the planet and the reduction of areas for growing products quite seriously. Employees of Forward Thinking have even developed an innovative project called "Smart Floating Farms" (Smart Floating Farms, SFF), which should improve the way food is produced in the future, reports Nk.org.ua

The development is a floating modular structure that works exclusively on solar energy and combines the technologies of hydroponics and aquaculture. In addition, they are fully automated and self-sufficient.

Such modules are intended for installation on water bodies that are rarely used. By placing such farms near cities, it is possible to significantly reduce the dependence on food imports, as well as reduce the costs of transportation and other production operations related to the cultivation of agricultural crops.

Each module of the floating farm has dimensions of 200x350 meters. It can be connected to other modules, forming a production cluster separated by built-in tracks.

In addition to farming, the modules can be adapted for research centers and exhibition educational sites.

The SFF module consists of three main levels: the ground level is for aquaculture and the installation of desalination systems, the first level is used for growing crops using the hydroponic method, the second level is a roof with installed solar photovoltaic cells and tanks for collecting and storing rainwater

According to Spanish architects, each module can produce more than 8,000 tons of vegetables and more than 1,700 tons of fish annually.

Currently, the "Intelligent Floating Farm" is only at the stage of project development.
