Due to pollution of the river surface, lack of light and oxygen, 20 thousand tons of fish die in the Dnieper every year. A huge number die as a result of sewage discharge into the river and toxic emissions from factories. Chemicals accumulate in the water and lead to mutations. One of the reasons why there are fewer fish in the Dnieper every year is the loss of spawning grounds. Because of the dams, the river has already lost sturgeon, some other species are on the verge of extinction. TSN writes about this. Every year, at least three new diseases caused by pollution are found in fish. These are bacterial, infectious and other diseases that lead to damage to the internal organs of fish - mainly predators. Carp, sazan, bream and others die in large quantities. Pike and pike perch have been infected with a virus similar to AIDS in humans for about ten years. Doctors do not know how dangerous red tumors are, so they recommend not to eat sick fish. Up to 80% of the offspring die due to siltation of shallow water and poisoning of the water with toxins. The number of pike perch and catfish is rapidly decreasing, because there are fewer and fewer holes where the fish could hide for the winter. Scientists say that due to chemical changes in the composition of the water in the Dnieper, the types of fish in the river have also changed. There are more crucian carp - it requires less oxygen. Due to salinization, gobies, needlefish and even jellyfish have appeared. But typical Dnieper species - ide, podus, tench - are on the verge of extinction. Herbivores - white amur and silver carp - can at least clean the river of greenery. They need to stock the river with them. This is partly done by industrialists. The state has three specialized plants, one of which is located in Novaya Kakhovka. Silver carp is grown there, as well as catfish, pike perch, pike and other fish. This year they plan to get 80 tons of fish. The special pride is the endangered sterlet and sturgeon. The latter is to be restored in the Black Sea, but the sterlet is to be returned to the Dnieper. There is no exact data on the volume of fish caught in the Dnieper. The official figures are at least three times less than the real ones. They are caught both from the shore and from boats. Only on the Kremenchug reservoir and only officially 4 thousand nets are installed. The material says that in order to completely restore the fish in the Dnieper, the existing factory scale is not enough. Scientists say that for this it is necessary to release 50 million fish annually, and 35 of them are herbivorous. In total, it is now possible to reach the figure of 8-10 million. A single state program for stocking the river with fish simply does not exist. Let us recall that the Dnepropetrovsk authorities previously reported that they were going to release 9 million fry into the river in 10 years. In 2017, it is planned to release 1.5 million fry, in 2018 - 1.8 million, in 2021 - 1.3 million, in 2022 - 1.8 million, in 2025 - 1.3 million. They will also equip spawning sites on the Dnieper.
